Hire a Med Student Program
Hire a Med Student allows medical students to gain research and quality improvement experience in health care with rural Ontario communities. Students will participate in quality improvement projects and work alongside other healthcare professionals during this summer work placement opportunity.
2025 Updates
- 2025 application period is November 18 to December 19, 2024 at 11:59pm PST
- Employers will receive funding confirmations beginning April 2025
- Job must be worked within the timeframe of April 21 to August 31, 2025 (exact dates will be negotiated with the employer)
- Work placement can end no later than August 31, 2025
- Payment claims must be submitted within 30 days of the end date of the work placement
Description
- Job duration must be between 6 and 16 consecutive weeks and be full-time (30-40 hours per week)
- If eligible, not-for-profit employers are eligible to receive up to 100% of the provincial or territorial adult minimum wage hourly wage
- If eligible, public and private sector employees are eligible to receive funding for up to 50% of the provincial or territorial adult minimum hourly wage
- Employers cannot hire the student before receiving the approval by Service Canada
- ROMP will qualify, screen, and support the employer in the selection of applicants
- Learners would be required to support their own accommodations and travel within the community
- Each employer will be responsible to submit their own application through Canada Summer Jobs
- ROMP can guide employers in application submission, job descriptors, and documentation
Student Eligibility
- Medical students in their pre-clerk or clerkship years
- Canadian citizens or permanent resident
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Be between 15-30 years of age
- Family members are not eligible for reimbursement
Organizational Eligibility
- Not-for-profit organizations, public, private sector employers or small businesses with 50 or fewer full-time employees
- Hospitals, Family Health Teams, Community Health Centres, and Physician Clinics are eligible
